Our business is about technology, but we recognise the responsibilities that we have to the wider environment in which we carry out our work. Our CompatABILITY programme is a corporate priority which supports our activity in the areas of environmental responsibility, business ethics and social involvement.
Equipment waste disposal policy
Compatibility Ltd has a structured approach to the recycling and waste handling of the range of hardware and electronic equipment that is brought back to the offices.
The policy includes a number of in-house recycling activities blended with a close partnership with individual Councils that manage the disposal of the base industrial waste.
Items include:
- Transportation - using technology to cut down travel wherever possible
- Stationery & office supplies – implementing our core policy of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle
- Supply source - sourcing supplies from environmentally friendly countries and avoiding the world’s worst polluters
- Old and broken equipment - where practical, stripping down all hardware and electrical equipment including PCs and servers, monitors and printers to the main components which incorporate soft plastics, glass and other recyclable materials, and sorting them into individual recycling bins.
- Office and packaging waste - breaking down all waste and recycling wherever possible, using a mixture of private and council schemes
- Security - wiping of all data on old disk drives to the highest industry standards. All drives are subsequently put conclusively beyond mechanical use.
Business ethics
Our business works on the basis of respect for everyone with whom we have a business relationship. It follows three fundamentals:
- Common sense – be guided by experience and the core values of what is right and proper
- Acceptability - consider whether a decision is one that will be acceptable to all of those involved in it. If you are uncomfortable with it in any way, don’t do it
- Corporate values - make sure that our actions comply with the way in which we want to run our business
